International Book Arsenal Festival is an annual intellectual event in Ukrainе, founded by Mystetskyi Arsenal in 2011. Over the ten years of its existence, 500+ writers, poets, illustrators, designers, philosophers, and publishing experts have visited Book Arsenal from 50+ countries. In 2019, Book Arsenal was recognized as the best literary festival of the year.

The 10th International Book Arsenal Festival will take place on June 23-27, 2021 in Kyiv, Ukraine in a hybrid format.

Focus theme of the Festival

Since 2017, by expanding the international component, attracting new partners and following the latest trends in the book publishing market, the Festival, however, seeks to focus on one theme to best represent it through literature, art, educational practices, rereading it and reflecting on it.

The focus theme of the 10th International Book Arsenal Festival is OPTIMISTS SKEPTICS. It is curated by Rostyslav Semkiv, literary critic, translator, author, Associate Professor of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Take a look at the visual identity of the festival on a modern website launched in 2021. By the way, it provides new convenient opportunities for all participating publishers.

The program of the 10th International Book Arsenal Festival consists of both offline and online Literary Program, Program for Kids and Teens, a special curatorial program on book design, musical and other thematic programs and Special Writer’s Program of Ukrainian poet, novelist, translator, public activist Serhiy Zhadan. Festival’s Program in 2021 includes well-known Ukrainian authors: Taras Prokhasko, Yuriy Izdryk, Kateryna Babkina, Yurii and Sophia Andruhovych, Ivan Malkovych, Oksana Zabuzhko,  Iryna Tsilyk and many others.

Online components of the 10th International Book Arsenal Festival include live streams of the best real events, special online projects and events with foreign participants. Also, the Book Arsenal Festival with the Ukrainian Library Association invites libraries from all over the world to join the online program in 2021. “Book Arsenal in Your Library” will allow residents of local communities from different parts of Ukraine and the world to visit the Festival online and join in viewing and discussing the events that will take place during the Festival in Kyiv. Library representatives will choose from the online program of the Book Arsenal (over 80 events). And based on selected events, the participant will develop their own program for their visitors. Ukrainian Literature: Rights On! The main goal of this program is to stimulate translations of Ukrainian books abroad and to strengthen the competencies of Ukrainian publishers in selling rights abroad. Details and registration.

The Book Pitch project was launched in 2020 by the Odesa International Film Festival and the International Book Arsenal Festival. Its goal is to find modern Ukrainian books that have the potential for adaptation as feature films. Details and registration.
